Small increase in Grand Valley employment encourages optimism of Spring
A sampling of large employers in the Grand Valley indicated an increase in hiring lately. The trend actually seems to date back to this past winter.

Better Mesa County Fiscal Planning This Time Around
Mesa County Commissioners and the County Administrator admit that the national economic crisis lingers here in this western Colorado county. But the fact that Commissioners have set aside a healthy reserve, and that many construction bonds will be paid off in 2011, puts the county in a much better position to prosper. Because Mesa County will be debt-free in 2011, the county will be in a much healthier position than might have been.

Natural gas drilling increases in Western Colorado
The long anticipated increase in gas drilling in western Colorado and eastern Utah seems to be occuring. Another cycle begins. The secret seems to be an increase in popularity of natural gas as a plentiful and expedient fuel energy, as well as foreseen stability in prices.

Mesa County, Colorado unemployment lags one year behind the rest of the state
Mesa County, Colorado economic statistics continue to lag behind the rest of the country and Colorado. In this case, unemployment numbers are about a year behind just about everywhere else. Mesa County unemployment rates are the highest in Colorado.
