Northwest Colorado has some of the largest and most dependable natural gas resources in the United States. Most of the eastern US natural gas fields start fast on their yields, and then drop off rapidly in their productivity. Two companies are burrowing into the red bluffs and canyons of western Colorado and eastern Utah to dig out uranium and start the process of generating electricity.

The uranium potential is focused under the western Book Cliffs range north of I-70, principally in Utah. A brief look at a map will reveal that Grand Junction, Colorado is easily the biggest city anywhere near the area.
